This is a greenfield opportunity to be part of the management team of a newly created National Oil Company and take responsibility for the country’s sovereign wealth in the Hydrocarbon space. It will suit an ambitious Operations Manager with experience in drilling, field development, reservoir and facilities management, who wants to take responsibility for all the relevant activities required for the development and production phases of the country's oil & gas production. 

Your background should include technical hands-on expertise in the industry, exposure to all the technical disciplines identified above, management experience, and the proven capacity to plan and deliver technical outcomes against defined schedules. Your role will include the mentoring and personal management of professionals with varying degrees of skill, and your involvement in a similar situation in your past would be considered favourably. 

The planning, management, scheduling and safe execution of all operational activities for the organisation are your responsibility to ensure that the company's development plans, production targets and forecasts are safely achieved, and that associated operations are within budget. You will report to the Managing Director and liaise closely with Commercial Department in the quest for developing opportunities. 

You will manage operational relations with representatives of other JV partners, from small national partners to large multinational oil companies, in order to ensure timely approval and delivery of projects. You will also: 

• ensure that Operations are carried out safely in compliance with the Company Policies and Procedures including all support departments such as Materials/Logistics, Projects, Production, Well Services, Engineering, and Drilling 
• build and motivate a technical team of company employees and subcontractors that will handle all phases of the company’s business. 
• oversee the recruitment and training of staff such that the Company can be adequately represented to do the work required 
• set milestones and manage the delivery of technical outcomes required by the Company 
• be responsible for the development and control of the Operation budget 
• work closely with Commercial and Law to investigate and develop commercial opportunities 
• keep the Executive and Board abreast of technical aspects of the company’s operations as and when required 
• represent the company to external parties, such as current and prospective joint venture partners, landowners, government representatives and at technical forums. 

The successful candidate will have: 

• Degree level essential - preferably in Engineering or related degree. 
• Minimum 15 years of experience in oil/gas exploration and production companies in one or several of the following disciplines - Drilling, Production Technology, Reservoir Engineering, Facilities & Project Management. 
• Extensive Oilfield development and project management experience essential.  • High level of experience in a senior level position in oilfield development and project management essential.  • Strong Leadership/Management skills/People skills - proven experience of managing a diverse set of people skills at various levels essential. 
• Strong financial acumen - experience in devising capital & operating budgets related to full field development plus upstream economics is essential. 
• Strong commercial acumen - experience with technical/commercial tenders essential. 
• Highly diplomatic with the ability to develop and maintain strong relations with JV partners and Governmental Officials at highest levels essential. 
• Previous expatriate experience in developing countries favoured. 
• Driven, self-starter and highly motivated. 
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization to achieve objectives.
